The leafy Melbourne suburb of Ascot Vale, situated 5km north of the CBD, stretches from the Maribyrnong River in the west across to the Moonee Ponds Creek. Exceedingly popular and increasingly affluent, Ascot Vale has been transformed over the past decade into one of Melbourne’s most desirable inner-urban locales. Incredibly diverse, Ascot Vale homes appeal to a broad range of people. The large number of single-front Victorians and Edwardians are ideal for professionals wanting to be close to town. The many units and townhouses appeal to investors offering healthy returns and strong capitol growth, and the larger Californian Bungalows and post-war homes around the Whisky Hill precinct are popular with families needing a bigger house on a bigger block.

It is fast becoming known as a renovation hotspot, with many owners opting to refresh and update their properties to conform with modern standards of comfort and durability.

Directed by Trent Climas, a registered builder and qualified carpenter with over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, TRC Construction P/L is a family-owned and operated building company based in the Essendon area, just north of Ascot Vale.

Originally from Northern Victoria, TRC Construction has established a reputation as a reliable and passionate builder focused on quality and client interaction. The country background provides TRC with a composed and friendly approach with an clear understanding that word of mouth is vital to long term success within the industry.

Servicing most areas of Melbourne and country VIC, TRC Construction can build anything from outdoor areas to unit developments. Strong work ethics compliments TRC Construction’s honest and practical approach. These core values are instilled in every build process.

TRC recently undertook a re-cladding project in Ascot Vale to replace some terribly warped, cracked and rotting timber weatherboards with new Scyon™ Linea™ weatherboards, providing the home with a new lease on life.

James Hardie representative Ben Lau, met with Trent on site to offer product solutions to both the builder and homeowner. Upon seeing the style of the old timber boards, he presented a sample of the Linea™ 180mm board, the closest in the James Hardie range of products to the existing boards.

Trent, who has previously worked with Scyon™ Linea™ and had a great experience with it on another project in Ascot Vale, quite literally across the street from this project, was then able to show the homeowner what the finished, painted product would look like. The homeowner was suitably impressed and gave the green light to proceed.

The differences between the Scyon™ Linea™180mm weatherboard compared to timber boards were ultimately what sealed the deal:

  • They will not shrink, rot, or warp like the existing timber had done
  • They require minimal maintenance compared to timber, carrying a 25 year non-diminishing manufacturers warranty and up to 15 year paint warranty on select paints.
  • The products exhibit very little variance from board to board, delivering a smart, straight finish as a result
  • The boards can be joined off stud and are back-bevelled to sit flush
  • The ability cut easily and gun-nail faster

"Too many times I've returned to jobs to repair cracked, split or shrinking boards. Linea™ provides both the owner and myself with cost effective maintenance and therefore, peace-of-mind". - Trent Climas

Some of the other benefits which make Trent choose and promote the use of Scyon™ products include:

  • The boards come pre-primed so painting is not immediately required upon installation; and
  • The option for concealed fixing means uninterrupted lines for a smooth, seamless finish

"Since using Scyon Linea weatherboards, now when I meet with potential clients I am encouraging them to explore the option of Linea rather than their existing timber boards. On most occasions, clients have experienced rotted, cracked and warped boards with timber so are open to alternative products". - Trent Climas
