FAQ for HardiePlank™ weatherboard

Can the Metal Soaker, Stud Clips or Uni Clip be used in a salt affected area?

No, in these applications/environments the appropriate fasteners must be used and the HardiPlank® Cladding & PrimeLine should be joined on stud.

When installing HardiePlank™ cladding to a timber frame, should the fibre cement nail pass through both planks?

Yes, the fibre cement nail must pass through both planks, 12 mm above the bottom edge with a 25 mm overlap.

When installing HardiePlank™ cladding to a steel frame, should the HardieDrive™ screw pass through both planks?

No, HardiDrive screw must be fixed 30 mm above the bottom edge through the top plank only.

How can I join HardiePlank™ off stud without using the PVC jointers?

Metal Soakers are available for the HardiePlank™ range (except Shingled Siding). These provide a less visible join.

When installing HardiePlank™ Cladding / PrimeLine Weatherboards, is it best to install each wall individually, or install around the house perimeter?

The HardiePlank™ Cladding / PrimeLine® Weatherboards should be installed around the perimeter of the building then up the wall checking every 4th board to ensure they are correctly levelled and spaced.

I have noticed that some other cladding materials are only available in 3.6m lengths. Is HardiePlank™ available in longer lengths?

Yes, to minimise joins HardiePlank™ Cladding is only available in 4.2m lengths.

Can I ‘secret nail’ HardiePlank™ cladding onto a timber frame?

No, It is recommended to fix through the overlap using a 40mm x 2.8mm galvanised Fibre cement nail. If you would like to conceal the fixings refer to the PrimeLine® Summit or Newport profiles.

Can I use HardiePlank™ Shingled Siding as a roofing material?

No, HardiePlank™ Shingle Siding has been developed for walls only.
