In bygone years, building a Hamptons dream home was typically hampered by the exorbitant price tag. Turning that idea on its head is SJM Property Developments in Tasmania. Because of their philosophy that “form and function must exist side by side”, they’ve become masters at making the Hamptons style affordable and built from high-quality products.

Their latest display home is a unique take on the traditional Hamptons look – a mash-up of Contemporary and Australian Hamptons styles, it’s an exceptional build that is sure to attract even the most discerning buyer.013_Open2view_ID654690-14_O_Connor_Drive

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF LOCATION WITH A FIBRE CEMENT SOLUTION

Anyone who’s traversed the rolling terrain of Tassie knows there’s an abundance of timber to utilise. This has led to an ongoing interest in building weatherboard homes. For this particular build however, SJM knew they needed the durability of fibre cement to stand up to the harsh Australian climate – while also providing that timeless Hamptons look.

In addition to durability, the builder wanted the crisp uniformity of timber weatherboards and chose to use Linea™ Weatherboard by James Hardie.

“We chose James Hardie exterior cladding products because they emulate the Hamptons weatherboard look perfectly, while also being durable and low maintenance,” says Sam Morse from SJM.

In addition to the cost and installation of traditional timber weatherboards, there’s the time-consuming maintenance to consider – particularly in a place like Tasmania that is regularly lashed with wet weather. James Harde fibre cement cladding carries none of the maintenance burden.017_Open2view_ID654690-14_O_Connor_Drive

A DIFFERENT TAKE ON THE HAMPTONS LOOK

Take a tour around SJM’s new display home and you’ll notice straight away that it’s not the traditional Hamptons look you may be familiar with. Rather than the type of home you’d find dotted down Long Island’s South Fork, it’s an eye-catching blend of various Hamptons styles and something truly unique.

The first thing you’ll notice is the Australian Hamptons styling in the basic Dutch gables and Colorbond roof. But there is also plenty of Contemporary Hamptons charm throughout – from the lack of contrasting trim, and minimal ornamentation and detail, right through to the modern fixtures like the pendant lighting. SJM’s experience really shines through here.

The display home turns ‘traditional’ on its head in the best possible way. The wonderful thing about the Hamptons style is its casual charm that makes you feel like you’re on holiday every day of the year. Plus, with a flawless open plan and spacious indoor-outdoor living areas for entertaining, you wouldn’t want to leave home anyway!

“We had previously built a Hamptons-style display home on a smaller scale which took off and led to us doing multiple Hamptons developments,” says Sam. “Our new Hamptons display home showcases the best lifestyle features of a typical Hamptons home, featuring large open living spaces, Italian-made appliances, a gas fireplace, indoor-outdoor entertaining with a built-in barbecue area, and a large sunken firepit directly off the alfresco space.”

SJM take the same approach no matter what type of home they are building, and James Hardie exterior cladidng products are at the heart of that flexible design and construction strategy:

“We regularly use James Hardie exterior cladding products – whether it’s Hamptons style, Modern or Mixed Cladding – because of the ease of installation along with the fact it is an Australian-made product.”

FINDING FORM WITH JAMES HARDIE

Sam says SJM relied on both quality products and a quality supplier to create this unique spin on a Hamptons home, and the results more than speak for themselves.

“We identified an opportunity that this was the look our customers wanted, and the James Hardie Linea Weatherboard helps us achieve this in every Hamptons build that we create. We also chose Clennett’s Mitre 10 as our supplier as we have had a great relationship with them for over 20 years, with supply and support over hundreds of projects.
