At James Hardie, our purpose of Building a Better Future For All™ is reflected in our Environmental, Sustainable and Governance (ESG) policy, with a focus on supporting communities with safe and resilient housing. One of the most impactful projects to date is our support for the Lady Musgrave Trust Jinndii Waijung (meaning Mother’s Nest in local language) project in Queensland, where we have contributed to building a haven for women and children escaping domestic violence and homelessness.

The official opening of the Jinndii Waijung facility took place on March 20th. The event was attended by the Queensland Minister of Housing, Sam O’Connor MP.

A Safe Place for Healing and Growth

The Lady Musgrave Trust's Jinndii Waijung project is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility designed to provide a secure and supportive environment for mothers and their children. It is a place where families can stay for a set period, helping them to break the cycle of violence and begin the healing process. The facility offers a nurturing space where women and children can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Our Contribution

James Hardie is proud to have supported this project by donating approximately $50,000 worth of product, including Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding and Versilux™ Lining, along with a variety of accessories. Our partnership with McNab, who constructed this project at cost, has been instrumental in bringing this project to life. McNab, known for their commitment to quality and community, have worked tirelessly to ensure that the facility meets the highest standards of safety and comfort.

Our support for The Lady Musgrave Trust and the Jinndii Waijung project reflects our dedication to creating safe and resilient housing for those in need. By providing durable and beautiful building materials and partnering with like-minded organisations, we are helping to build a future where everyone has access to secure and dignified housing.

A Collaborative Effort

The success of Jinndii Waijung is a testament to the power of collaboration. This project is only possible thanks to a partnership with the Property Industry Foundation who pulled together a pro bono project team including the award-winning Blight Rayner architects. Their innovative design provided free of charge ensures that the facility is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, creating a welcoming environment for its residents.

The Queensland Government, through its Housing Investment Fund, has provided essential funding to support this initiative. This funding underscores the government's commitment to addressing domestic violence and homelessness, ensuring that vulnerable families have access to safe and secure housing.

We are incredibly proud of our contribution to this project and look forward to continuing our support for initiatives that make a real difference in people's lives. Together, we can build a better future for all.
