Do you have a blank wall that you just don’t know what do with? Or perhaps you feel that your exterior requires a point of interest or some ‘wow’ factor. Renovation and design experts, Josh and Jenna, share their top tips for creating an exterior feature wall.

TEXTURE & SHAPE

Josh & Jenna’s tip:

“Feature walls don’t always need to painted in a bright colour. A contrasting texture or shape will draw your eye to the area and create a focal point.”

Contrast horizontal cladding like Scyon™ Stria™ or Scyon™ Linea™ with natural textures like stone or timber to bring the cladding to life. Stick to neutral tones like beige, grey, and charcoal, and use the contrasting texture to make the cladding stand out.

CREATE DEPTH

Josh & Jenna’s tip:

“If you select a narrow board such as the Scyon™ Linea™ 150mm on a feature wall, the 16mm edge will create a deep shadow that looks great as a garden backdrop.”

Add depth to your exterior by choose cladding that creates deep grooves and shadows. Scyon Linea is perfect for creating shadows and achieving the classic coastal look. For something more modern, choose Scyon Stria in the splayed profile. This cladding provides a contemporary look while the grooves help create depth.

GET CLEVER WITH LIGHTING

Josh & Jenna’s tip:

“If you have a textured feature wall such as brick, coarse render or tile, use lighting to enhance the shadows and texture and create the perfect backdrop for entertaining.”

Lighting is essential for adding the right ambience to your outdoor entertaining area. Use lighting to break up longer walls or to add a break to horizontal cladding like Scyon Linea or Scyon Stria.
