INTRODUCING: THE CABIN

Call it Scandi Barn, Farm House or The Cabin – but we’re seeing this modern look pop up all over Australia. Its bold simplicity can be found in inner city, suburban, country and coastal areas. Perth based luxury home builder, Webb and Brown-Neaves have re-imagined the beach house with their design “The Cabin”. If you’ve just purchased land in Perth you can have them build this house.

There’s so much we love about this home. With its high impact street appeal and modern simplicity, it’s a stand out on the street with its James Hardie vertical cladding and unique recycled brick work. Launched in February 2020, WB’s The Cabin, located in the northern coastal suburb of Burns Beach, provides home buyers a new coastal experience by challenging coastal design conventions at an accessible price point.

CREATING CURB APPEAL USING VERTICAL ClADDING

The exterior presents a pair of eye-catching gable roofs with no eaves. They’re framed by projecting gables that continue down the walls and meet at the base of the second storey. To maintain the distinctive shape, one sits in front of the other and it cantilevers over the ground floor providing cover at the entrance of the home.

Beyond the form, the texture of the home is compelling with a mix of vertical joint style cladding and brickwork. Recycled Italian bricks provide horizontal lines and a patchwork of colour. Conversely, James Hardie’s fibre cement Axon™ Cladding is perfectly uniform giving the look of precisely crafted vertical joint timber. Since Axon™ Cladding is made of fibre cement, it can still be painted the contemporary matte charcoal to match the window trims and roof capping.

MODERN LOOK DESIGN DETAILS

Well considered window choices can make or break a modern design. On this home, the square window is a standout feature on the façade. The powder coated aluminium window reveal projects beyond the surface of the cladding to provide depth and great visual interest to the façade. From the inside, the window frames the natural bushland as live art and provides ample natural lighting to the room.

AN INTERIOR EXPERIENCE

The steeply pitched gable roof of The Cabin allows for a vaulted ceiling that creates a light, airy and spacious feel.

The interior design style is about neutral tones, wooden floors and simple lines. The Cabin has its own style called ‘Neutral Bliss’ which is similar. It’s about evoking a sense of calm with natural colours and organic materials with textural surfaces. The aim is to achieve a resort feel that’s an antidote to technology overload and busy lives. So when you arrive home, you quickly feel relaxed, comfortable and free.

The combination of blond oak flooring, floral white walls and painted lined ceiling and balustrade creates a complimentary coastal interior that is surprisingly a unique contrast to the external colour palette. JH-Web-Tester-1536x1024
