When you hear the term ‘Hamptons’ to describe a house, you’re instantly transported to a weatherboarded, sea-sprayed and picturesque setting by the Long Island ocean.

Over the years, the Hamptons style has evolved from its northern hemisphere origins and been adapted to suit the variety of Australian life. Across urban streets, coastal spots and country blocks, designers have created their own charming Hamptons take.

With a focus on more shade, open spaces, high ceilings and careful detailing, the Australian Hamptons is a signature style of James Hardie and Metricon Homes.

And the recently unveiled Fontaine home from Metricon is the perfect example of that Hamptons sophistication. Using a variety of James Hardie products inside and out, it’s a spacious and cohesive country acreage build that stands up to the Australian climate and modern life.

Space where it matters most

James Hardie and Metricon’s take on the Hamptons style prioritises room to move and grow. Located in the Gold Coast Hinterland, the Fontaine home is 600 square metres, with a farmhouse feel that’s balanced with instant street appeal.

To achieve this look, Linea™ Weatherboards by James Hardie were used across the outside of the home. The striking shadow lines of the weatherboards and grey painted tone were perfect to offset the signature gable rooflines and trims.

“The Fontaine has the breezy elegance and craftsmanship you see in the Hamptons, combined with the rustic charm of Queenslander and country designs,” says Adrian Popple, Design Director of Metricon Homes.

“It’s a vision we wouldn’t have been able to achieve with brick, as it’s visually too heavy,” he says.MET606827_Tallai_2645-1-1536x1024

An exterior built to last

The unrelenting Australian climate means that the materials we build with must stand up to intense conditions for longer.

Using fibre cement solutions by James Hardie makes the exterior resistant to shrinking, swelling, cracking, and fire resistant, while also holding paint longer than wood. The Linea™ Weatherboard. were also used on the property’s guesthouse and cabana, both of which mirror the thick white detailing, exposed trusses and rafter tails of the main building. Keeping the materials consistent across the exterior of the living spaces, creates a striking look that brings different spaces together.

Inside the Fontaine build, there’s a light, open and expansive feel that works to bring the outside in. The interior is designed to seamlessly reflect the facade, using Hardie™ Groove Lining by James Hardie that grounds the property with a cohesive design approach. The exposed white ceiling beams and truss are contrasted with the panels creating textural lines that draw the eye across the space.

The durability of fibre cement also comes to the fore with the Hardie™ Groove Lining used on exposed eaves and alfresco areas, which enable the continuation of the Hamptons style. The undercover outdoor room combines the best of exterior and interior, giving a sense of opulence to a setting that can be used for those dinner parties that spill out from the generous dining areas.

“ I’m really proud of the Australia-Country-Meets-Hamptons balance in the interior…made possible by the use of Hardie™ Groove lining, as they were about 50% quicker to install than individual timber boards.”

Built for living

The Fontaine home is built for living and entertaining with a focus on communal spaces. And making those areas comfortable in all seasons was a crucial element of the design. Fibre cement by James Hardie helps ensure that the house stays warm through the harsh winters, and cool during the intense summers, through its thermal qualities.

For those wanting to emulate the on-trend, Hamptons coastal style the Fontaine is cleverly designed and built with the best in James Hardie materials to bring you the best of modern and comfortable living.MET606827_Tallai_1848-1536x1024 MET606827_Tallai_2854-1536x1024 Inspired to get the look?
