The Bulimba Residence a Forever Home in the Hamptons Style

fullsizeoutput 3-1

Elegant design and quality fittings are the hallmarks of this immaculate Hamptons-style residence. Proudly positioned in the riverside suburb of Bulimba, located in Brisbane’s prestigious inner east, this two-storey build utilises modern fibre cement cladding to achieve a classic look.

The home, designed by Big House Little House makes extensive use of Scyon™ Linea™ for the home’s external façade. Concrete based cladding which provides a similar look and finish to timber weatherboards, the material is termite and fire resistant and requires minimal maintenance.

Scyon Linea weatherboards are easily painted and are not prone to shrinkage or swelling. The material is a popular façade choice for country cottages, beach houses and contemporary dwellings where a traditional look is sought.

“It’s a quality product which weathers much better than old school timber boards – there’s no warping or cupping,” says director Chris Brumby. “For this project, we chose it primarily for cosmetic reasons – it looks a million bucks!” – but for clients who are planning to stay in a home long term, the value proposition of minimal maintenance is pretty hard to walk past.

“I was very happy to recommend Scyon to the owners and the builder for this project.

No arguments here, says Sam Dixon of JH Dixon Builders, whose company has a history of working with the Scyon range.

“We were looking for a long lasting and crisp finish to bring this Hamptons-style build together,” Dixon says.

“Scyon Linea delivered the clean lines we were looking for – it’s a reliable product which assists us to provide the high-quality finish JH Dixon prides itself on.

“We’ve had great success with Scyon on our past projects and were confident Chris had made the right choice in this instance.”

“I was very happy to recommend Scyon to the owners and the builder for this project.” Designer Chris Brumby and builder Sam Dixon work with Scyon product in many of their builds and were more than happy to recommend Scyon Linea for the facade of this Hamptons home.

Scyon cladding can typically be installed around 25 per cent faster than timber boards; a bonus for architects and builders who pride themselves on delivering their projects on time and budget.

“This home was no exception,” Brumby says. “The ease of installation contributed to us staying on schedule.”

A neutral colour palette creates a seamless indoor-outdoor transition, giving this Hamptons home an Australian twist.

Commissioned to create a forever home for a young family, which contrasted rather than clashed with Bulimba’s streetscape of traditional colonial and Queenslander dwellings, the collaboration between Big House Little House and JH Dixon Builders resulted in the delivery of a lush dwelling which marries traditional features with sub-tropical style.

Situated on an 818m2 double block, the triple gabled, two-storey home boasts three discrete living areas, four double bedrooms, five bathrooms, a home office, wine cellar, mud room – an alcove off the entrance hall where coats and boots can be stored – and a double garage.

The entertainer’s kitchen includes an island bench which seats 10, butler’s pantry and a full complement of top-line European appliances, including a double oven.

Oversized bi-fold doors lead to a lavishly appointed outdoor kitchen and covered entertainment deck which flows out to a sparkling lap pool and grassy play area.

Hardwood stairs and polished floors in spotted gum contribute to the home’s traditional vibe, while Japanese-style sliding doors and marble walls feature in two of the bathrooms.

The Bulimba house has become both a showpiece of the street and a haven for the happy family who are fortunate to call it home. It’s the optimum outcome for a project which was more than two years in the making, Brumby says.“Using Scyon Linea weatherboards enabled us to deliver a contemporary, modern design which is sensitive to the building character code of this beautiful pocket of the city,” he says.“Would I recommend it to other clients looking for a flawless finish? Definitely!”
